Introduction:

Calcium chloride and magnesium chloride desiccants are two highly effective moisture-absorbing agents that share many common characteristics, so we will introduce them together.

  • Calcium chloride, the primary ingredient in its desiccant form, is produced through a refined process involving high-quality calcium carbonate and hydrochloric acid. This process includes reactions, filtration, evaporation, concentration, and drying (chemical reaction equation: CaCO3 + 2HCl = CaCl2 + H2O + CO2↑).。
  • Magnesium chloride, on the other hand, is derived from brine, a byproduct of salt production from seawater. It is concentrated into a solution of carnallite (KCl·MgCl2·6H2O), from which potassium chloride is removed after cooling. The remaining solution is then concentrated, filtered, cooled, and crystallized.

The powerful moisture-absorbing capabilities of both calcium chloride and magnesium chloride make them ideal desiccants, effectively protecting products from moisture damage, particularly during the transportation and storage of sensitive items.

Why Use High Moisture-Absorbing Desiccants?

Calcium chloride and magnesium chloride desiccants offer significantly higher moisture absorption rates and broader temperature ranges compared to traditional mineral and silica gel desiccants.

  • Anhydrous Calcium Chloride Desiccant: Absorption rate ≥ 300%, suitable temperature range: -5°C to 90°C. (Anhydrous magnesium chloride can achieve an absorption rate of up to 400%.)
  • Mineral + Calcium Chloride Mixed Desiccant: Absorption rate ≤ 85%, suitable temperature range: < 50°C.
    Pure Mineral Desiccant / Silica Gel Desiccant: Absorption rate ≤ 30%;
  • pure mineral desiccants are suitable for humidity levels < 50°C, while silica gel desiccants are suitable for humidity levels < 37°C.

Using high-performance desiccants like calcium chloride and magnesium chloride ensures better protection against moisture damage, especially in diverse environmental conditions.

1)The primary ingredients of calcium chloride desiccants are calcium chloride and plant starch. The moisture absorption principle relies on the strong hygroscopic properties of calcium chloride, which absorbs moisture from the air and combines with starch to form a gel-like substance, effectively preventing liquid leakage.

2)Magnesium chloride desiccants consist of magnesium chloride and high molecular weight absorbent materials. They strongly absorb moisture from the packaging environment and gradually transform into a hard solid after absorbing humidity, preventing water vapor from seeping back.

1)The high hygroscopicity of calcium chloride means it can absorb large amounts of moisture. Our calcium chloride desiccants use a double-layer packaging design to prevent leakage: an outer layer of coated non-woven fabric, and an inner layer made of transparent film and non-woven material.
